If you are a keyboard fan then you will find this tip very handy. MetaTrader 4 gives you the ability to switch charts, switch time frames (or rather chart periods), and locate a specific time on the chart without using your mouse.

To enable this feature or rather to show the "Fast Navigation Bar" you need to either double-click on the lower left hand corner of the active chart window or alternatively press Esc+Enter (hold down Esc and then press Enter). If you also hover your mouse on the lower left hand corner of the chart window you would see a CAPS icon appearing next to the curser and a tooltip which explains what to do.

When you enable the Fast Navigation Box a text box appears at the lower left corner of the chart window.

The box accepts any of the following commands. Simply type in the command and then press Enter.

• Chart Symbol (e.g. GBPUSD): Type in the symbol and then press Enter to switch the active chart to the new symbol
• Chart Period or rather time frame (e.g. M5): You may enter M1 (1 minute), M5, M15, M30, H1 (1 hour), H4, D1 (daily), W1 (weekly), or MN (monthly).
• Chart Symbol and Period (e.g. GBPUSD M5): You may either place a comma or a space between the chart symbol and period. Both GBPUSD M5 and GBPUSD,M5 (without space) are acceptable formats.
• Date (e.g. 2007.11.02): Acceptable date formats are YYYY.MM.DD (e.g. 2003.04.21), DD.MM.YYYY (e.g. 21.04.2003), and DD.MM.YY (e.g. 21.04.03). When you enter a date the first bar on the left side of the chart window would be the begining of that date.
• Time (e.g. 11:05): The format for the time is hh:mm. You may drop the 0 prior to one digit hour. For example you may either type in 08:21 or 8:21.
• Data and Time (e.g. 2007.11.02 11:05): You need to leave a space between date and time.
